Funimation’s Anime Content Heading Over to Crunchyroll

0

Breaking news: Anime content previously exclusive to Funimation officially merges into Crunchyroll‘s catalogue. This means that anyone who has a Crunchyroll subscription will be able to watch Funimation’s content without paying any extra fees.

Funimation will also no longer stream any new anime series starting this spring, as they’ll be available on Crunchyroll from now on, but new episodes of continuing series will still be updated in Funimation .

The announcement also means that Funimation’s French-language subsidiary, Wakanim, and the Crunchyroll-owned streaming service, VRV, will also merge into the sole Crunchyroll platform.

This all begins when Sony, which also owns Funimation, completed its acquisition of Crunchyroll for $1.175 billion last August and announced plans to unify both services under a single subscription.

Naturally, the move to the new platform will certainly confuse many, but we have collected some information from the frequently asked questions, as well as various sources, as there are many fans that are understandably confused over the matter.

Regarding the Funimation Subscription

Crunchyroll has recommended that anyone with a Funimation subscription to contact their official support channels so that they can help sort out that.

Furthermore, in order to aid in this transition, current subscribers of the Funimation, VRV, and Wakanim will be receiving emails by March 8, 2022, containing vouchers for 60 free days of Crunchyroll Premium. Unfortunately, the voucher will only work if you didn’t have a Crunchyroll subscription before this.

Anime Lineup

All new series from the upcoming spring season will stream exclusively on Crunchyroll going forward and users will be able to watch roughly 80% of Funimation and Wakanim’s most popular existing series on Crunchyroll by the end of March 2022.

Crunchyroll has also added more than 50 series that were previously either exclusive to Funimation or weren’t available to watch dubbed. Some of the more notable dubs joining the platform’s library today include Dr. Stone, Fire Force, My Hero Academia, and Tokyo Ghoul. Other iconic series that were previously exclusive to Funimation, like Cowboy Bebop and Yu Yu Hakusho, are also now available on Crunchyroll.

Watch Queue

As of right now, the watch queue won’t carry over between services, but Funimation has confirmed that they are hard at work at making sure the process of migration is as seamless as they possibly can.
