At the May 15 Osaka performance of the Touken Ranbu Kiden Ikusa-Yu no Adabana stage play, it was announced that the first non-musical Touken Ranbu stage play, 2016’s Touken Ranbu Kyoden Moyuru Honnōji, is getting an anime adaptation.
The play follows Fudō Yukimitsu, the sword that real-life legendary leader Oda Nobunaga received from his attendant Mori Ranmaru. The play’s director and playwright Kenichi Suemitsu will be both the scriptwriter and supervisor. Not much about the anime’s release date, cast, or anything else was revealed.
A video that is only viewable via a Japanese VPN was also streamed showcasing a bit of the future development for the stage play series. The video begins by saying that on February 2023, The Tale of Contradictory Genji stage play will be performed in Tokyo and Osaka, with Hiroki Nanami, a former actress of Takarazuka Revue, playing Kanesada and Sho Ayanagi playing Okurikara.
Furthermore, from October to November 2023, a new stage play with Yamambagiri, played by Yoshihiko Aramaki, will debut, titled “Touken Ranbu: A Japanese Sword History”. The play will debut in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Fukuoka.
