Bayonetta 3 New Trailer Reveals Gameplay and Long Awaited Release Date

Nintendo has been on a roll with revealing new releases out of the blue and dropped a new trailer for Bayonetta 3 on Wednesday. Along with the trailer, it was revealed that the coquettish Umbra Witch in all her stylish character action goodness will make her return on the Nintendo Switch on October 28.

The rumor and subsequent reveal of Bayonetta 3 have been a long-time coming, since its first official announcement by developer Platinum Games in December 2017.

Bayonetta 3 New Abilities and New Character, Viola

The trailer features the scandalous witch and her happening upon other Bayonetta’s from other worlds in a joint fight against a new enemy known as the Homunculi. Unlike the demons and angels from the past games, they are said to be man-made and are seeking to wipe out both Inferno and Paradiso by way of destroying the human realm.

Showing off her new abilities to summon and control an infernal demon at her will, Bayonetta 3 previews its new action set pieces with her hopping from building to building atop Phantasmaraneae and a shoot-em-up-esque-segment on board a train-like summon.

Also revealed is a new playable character named Viola, who brandishes a katana using a flurry of sword combos in combat, as well as a grappling hook of some sorts. Just like Bayonetta, she too shows off her ability to summon and use the power of Infernal Demons, branding her as an Umbra Witch as well.

New Family Friendly “Naïve Angel Mode”!?

Mostly known for its risqué sense of humor and aesthetics, Bayonetta 3 for the first time in the series will be adding an option that allows players to make the game less sexy. Introduced in a tweet following the reveal trailer post, Platinum Games revealed the “Naïve Angel Mode” in the post with a video demo showing off how when turned on, cutscenes, where Bayonetta’s skin would be showing, are covered up.

Special Edition Releases for Bayonetta 3

Along with the news, it has also been announced that the original game, Bayonetta will be seeing a standalone physical release for the Switch on September 30, where it was previously only available for download, unlike its sequels.

This news came with no surprise as The Trinity Masquerade Collector’s Edition of Bayonetta 3 was also shown, with the box being comprised of a 200-page art book as well as separate game case sleeves for all three games, which can be combined to make a single panoramic artwork. This can then be displayed on an included special case that can also house all three physical cartridge boxes inside.

The release date for the Bayonetta 3 Trinity Masquerade Edition is October 28 like the base game and will be available at select retailers and the Nintendo Store.

About Bayonetta 3

Bayonetta is a Third-Person Character Action game developed by Platinum Games and directed by the creator of the first Devil May Cry, Hideki Kamiya.

The original game launched back on the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2010, with a subsequent port over on the Wii U. The franchise would then become a Nintendo exclusive in 2014 with the launch of Bayonetta 2, followed along with the port of the two games to the Switch.

After its brief tease at the 2017 Game Awards, Platinum Games kept radio silence throughout development for several years, simply reassuring eager fans that the game is coming along. They would break the silence last year at a Nintendo Direct event, where the initial trailer dropped.
