We got to try out Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja’s latest project, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty at Tokyo Game Show 2022. Here are our impressions of the incredibly difficult game, that QooApp played on the PS5 version.
Wo Long: Fallen dynasty is set to launch on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2023.
▍Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty TGS 2022 Demo Impressions
The Wo Long demo at TGS 2022 was about 15 minutes in length, with the player being thrown into a level primarily to show off the game’s combat encounters. Here with some basic instructions, you’re taught how to fight, with the goal being to defeat Zhang Liang from the Yellow Turban Army.
Aside from just combat, the demo also gave us a glimpse of the game’s character creator, with several options you can fine-tune, building off of Nioh’s incredible character creator system. You are also given the option of picking from five mythical beasts, which accompany you and can be summoned to deal damage to a certain element.
This game rewards precision and correct timing, lest you fall victim to a few heavy attacks and immediately die. The text on the screen read “complete failure”, and at times we wondered if it was talking about the character or the player…
Aside from that there were certain spots in the level where you could set up checkpoints. The game has a unique system called “morale”, which increases as you defeat enemies, and decreases when you fall. This system also applies to the enemy, however, making dying to the same enemy an even more likely scenario, as they’ll be more powerful on your next encounter.
We also got a look at the game’s upgrade screen, which featured five disciplines. These five disciplines make up the core stats of your character, and as you level up one or more, the game will display that in a star, giving you a visual indicator of your preferred stat.
If you manage to defeat Zhang Liang during the demo, you’ll be rewarded with a T-shirt and a pin. Despite our tester not being used to playing similar games to Wo Long, they said they still had a great time and are looking forward to the game on its official release.
▍Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Console Demo
A demo for Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is also coming… Today! The demo is available now on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Completing the demo will reward you with a unique helmet that can be used in the game’s full release.
The demo can also be played online, allowing you try out the game’s co-op, and once you complete the demo you can answer a questionnaire to receive even more rewards.
