Konami to Reveal Updates on Silent Hill Series on October 19

Konami announced an update on the Silent Hill series is coming soon, in just two days in fact.

The website simply has the name Silent Hill on the page with an October 19. 2022 14:00 [PDT], which will be an upcoming Silent Hill Transmission broadcast. Konami promises new updates for the series on that date, though it’s still unclear if this will be a new game, remasters, or possibly even a non-gaming project like an anime series or another film.

Since Konami shelved Hideo Kojima’s Silent Hill project, the series has been left without a full release since 2012’s Silent Hill Downpour and 2014’s infamous P.T. by Hideo Kojima.

Personally, I’m waiting with cautious optimism. While I know a lot of people have been waiting for so long for a new Silent Hill game, it’s honestly a challenging sequel to make. Psychological horror is a huge part of the series, and it was largely effective in SH2 because it came out as a huge twist. Nowadays most people know the series will likely delve into psychological horror, so it’s no longer a twist, but an expectation.

What kind of project do you hope will be revealed during the broadcast?

About Silent Hill

The series is a horror franchise by Konami that takes place in the titular town. The first in the series was released in 1999 to great success as a unique horror title that forced players to play with a weak protagonist, in a dark setting covered in a never-ending fog, on a quest to save your daughter from a cult. The series later delved into psychological horror following Silent Hill 2.

The series hasn’t had a new game since 2012, and even longer since it had a “good” title, ever since Konami’s remaster of the series was received fairly negatively, and its recent titles not being able to capture the same magic as the originals.
