Amazon and Crystal Dynamics announced that a new major Tomb Raider title is in the works, with Amazon Games publishing the game globally.
The game will be a single-player, narrative-driven adventure continuing Lara Croft’s story. The game will apparently feature all of the “elements that have made Tomb Raider one of the most revered franchises in gaming”. The game is being developed with Unreal Engine 5 and is said to be the best expansive title to date.
While it hasn’t been confirmed explicitly if the game is coming to consoles or mobile, judging by how Amazon is describing the game it’ll likely be available on current-gen consoles and PC.
Since this is from Crystal Dynamics and is continuing Lara Croft’s story, it is presumably a sequel or follow-up to 2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider, with possibly Camilla Luddington returning to reprise her role as the character.
▍About Tomb Raider
Tomb Raider is a multi-media franchise originally beginning in 1996 as a video game. The series has gone through several iterations and storylines, with all of them featuring Lara Croft, the series’ protagonist.
The series saw a revival with the 2013 title by Crystal Dynamics, a 3rd-person action shooter featuring Lara Croft when she was far younger and inexperienced, exploring the island of Yamatai after a furious storm left her shipwrecked. The game was followed up 5 years later with Shadow of the Tomb Raider which saw fairly positive reviews for its refining of stealth and shooter mechanics while expanding on Croft’s story.
