Sand Land, the manga series written and illustrated by Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama, is getting an anime by Sunrise, ANIMA, and Kamikazedouga in 2023 in Japan.

While whether it will be an anime film or anime series is yet to be unknown, a sneak peek at its visual adaptation was provided in the teaser. Information about the production staff and voice cast members will be revealed at a later date.

The Sand Land project was first revealed last week with a countdown website highlighting that it will be based on Akira Toriyama’s short manga series that originally ran in 2000.

The manga is about the survivors roaming the earth long after it had been ravaged by war and natural disasters. Water is incredibly scarce and a king hoards all of the remaining water in the land, forcing common citizens to fight and rob each other for food and water. Tired of the king’s rampant greed, a sheriff asks the demon prince Beelzebub and his friends to go on a search for an alternate source of water.
