In the recent sweep of news revealing stageplay adaptations of anime titles, it seems like Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man is up next. Unveiled with a website, “Chainsaw Man The Stage” is set to arrive in theaters from September to October 2023.
▍Chainsaw Man Stage Play
The play is planned to perform in Tokyo and Kyoto, though no particular venue has yet been revealed. The Twitter account also enigmatically showed zero visuals for their stageplay at this time only showing off the bare minimum.
What little the website divulged was the fact that Fumiya Matsuzaki will direct the stageplay adaptation. Also responsible for writing the script of the play, Matsuzaki is also credited with his involvement as a writer and stage director for the theatrical adaptations of Gundam 00, Banana Fish, and more.
Subsequent announcements are soon to follow as the website has yet to reveal any visuals or cast members just yet, with more information announced at a later date.
▍ About Chainsaw Man
Chainsaw Man is a manga series following Denji, a 16-year-old boy abandoned by his father and has to pay off his debts to the Yakuza. After he meets a tiny devil named Pochita, he becomes a devil hunter for the Yakuza to clear his debt. After a series of mishaps and gruesome violence, Denji is then recruited by Makima from the Public Safety Division to hunt devils for them.
The series was nominated for the 13th Manga Taisho awards in 2019, won the best Shonen Manga category at the 66th Shogakukan Manga awards, along with many other accolades, and is even nominated for the 2022 Eisner Award.
