Duelyst was a free-to-play collectible card game released back in 2016, before its server was shut down on February 27, 2020. Now nearly three years after the game shut down, Counterplay Games announced that it is sharing the source code for its beloved title, completely for free on GitHub!
You might have seen that The game has a “sequel” in the form of Duelyst II on Steam. If you weren’t aware though it isn’t actually made by the original developers, rather it’s a fan-made remake of the title after getting permission from Counterplay.
Now with its source code out in the world, developers and anyone in the community can extend, modify and build upon the game, or use its assets royalty-free however you like. This lets the broader community who kickstarted Duelyst do more with their beloved title, and can continue to play, build upon, or even host their own servers.
Duelyst now also has a discord server with Richard Heyne, the lead producer of Counterplay games in the server.

▍ About Duelyst
Duelyst was a collectible card game released in 2016 for PC. In the game two players battle it out on a battlefield, positioning minions and using spells drawn from a custom-built deck. Decks can be made up of characters from six factions, each with its own unique set of abilities, spell cards, and other properties.
The game was partly funded through a Kickstarter campaign, garnering USD$137,707 in April 2014. The game was received fairly well by its players and received a total score of 82/100 on Metacritic as of writing.
The game was shut down in 2020 but continues today through its spiritual successor Duelyst II, a remake created by Dream Sloth Games with permission from Counterplay games. The game is playable on browsers and steam, with a planned release on mobile devices.
