The new Pokemon GO raid system has brought back many players into the Augmented Reality (AR) Catch’em All mobile game. Over the weekends, the first wave of Legendary Pokemon were spawn at Gyms all over the world as the highest difficulty Raids.

Like normal Raids, Players will group up with other players in the vicinity and fight against either Articuno or Lugia. Players will have significantly more time for Legendary Raids, but it is still recommended you dodge as much as you can, since the legendary pokemon are a lot stronger that normal Raid pokemons. Groups of 10+ players should be able to take down the raid, but having more is always better.

Thoughts

With the new major update, Raids has added a more interactive aspect to the game. Pokemon Gyms has also been revamped to become more like the Pokemon RPG series. Players who stuck with the game has new features to explore, and returning players can experience a new Pokemon GO experience which isn’t all too bad.

Whilst adding Legendary Pokemon to raids can be tempting to Pokemon fans, I really can’t see Pokemon GO becoming as big as it was in its prime. Sure, the trailers make it look like everyone in the world comes together for a big raid, but the reality is, unless you’re in a heavily crowded area, the chances are you’re going to fail the raid and waste raid ticket.

This update is by no means bad, but it would have been much better if it was released back when Pokemon GO was actually a big trend.
