Marvelous Europe and Xseed Games announced that they will co-publish the upcoming food-focused action roguelike, Cuisineer, globally for PC via Steam in summer 2023. An announcement trailer posted by Xseed on its YouTube channel gives a look at its gameplay and confirms the release date.
Developed by award-winning developer BattleBrew Productions, Cuisineer has already been critically acclaimed as a winner of BitSummit X-Roads 2022 Official Picks and as a PAX Together Pick at PAX East 2022.
Cuisineer takes place in a fantasy world inhabited by various races. The main character, an adventurer called Pom, inherits a family restaurant in his hometown of Paell, which is riddled with debts.
In order to earn money, the family restaurant must be open, and in order to serve the food, Pom needs ingredients from the dungeon. So Pom’s busy life began, sometimes adventuring in the dungeon, and sometimes cooking in the family restaurant and serving customers at the same time.
The game is a combination of dungeon exploration and family restaurant operation. The dungeon part is a light-action RPG in which Pom uses cooking tools such as spatulas and knives as weapons, and tea as a recovery item, in automatically generated dungeons.
The battle becomes even more exciting when Pom uses the skills hidden in each weapon. For example, the skill of your fly pan allows you to smash monsters with a huge frying pan, while the skill of the kitchen knife sends out a shockwave, allowing players to easily defeat even a large number of enemies.
Defeating monsters will give ingredients, which will be useful in the restaurant part of the game. Defeating unknown enemies will expand the culinary repertoire with new ingredients, making dungeon exploration an important part of Cuisineer.
In the family restaurant part, food is prepared and served according to the orders of customers who arrive in real-time, and money is received at the cash register. The kitchen is equipped with a variety of cooking utensils and depending on the customer’s order, the kitchen staff must quickly decide which cooking utensil to use: a soup pot for soup, a frying pan for baked dishes, a cutting board for salads, a kettle for bread, and so on.
