The originator of the “Strand-type” genre of games beginning with the flash game QWOP, is reaching its peak as Devolver Digital announced it is working with developers Gabe Cuzzilo, Matt Boch, and Bennett Foddy to create a new interactive experience called Baby Steps, coming to PS5 and PC via Steam in 2024.
The trio was responsible for the game Ape Out, and Bennett Foddy himself was responsible for the infamous Getting Over It game, and the legendary internet meme QWOP, which Baby Steps seemingly draws inspiration from, as the game is a literal walking simulator where you play as an unemployed fellow named Nate who is sent into an unknown world, and you have to walk to explore a new world, one foot at a time while grappling with physics.

▍About Baby Steps
Baby Steps is a 3D clumsy walking simulation game where you play as Nate, a 35-year-old failure of a son who spends his days lounging at home with no job, playing on a console while watching his favorite cartoons on his couch and eating pizza on his mom gives him.
One day while contemplating life he changes the channel on TV, when he’s suddenly teleported into a brand new world full of wonders, and walking, lots of walking. It’s up to you to guide Nate out of this new world and find a new sense of responsibility by tracking through this place, one step at a time.
Baby Steps is what you get when you take the walking aspect of QWOP and bring it into the 3D open world. You’ll be challenged by taking Nate out into the world through serene mountains, massive canyons, muddy hills, and more as you carefully maneuver him around the world with his feet, by commandeering each of them one at a time to simulate true walking. Get ready to fall trip, and accidentally knock stuff over as you grapple with this physics-based game.
