A new visual highlighting the series’ main characters; Kenshin Himura, Kaoru Kamiya, Sanosuke Sagara, Megumi Takani, and Aoshi Shinomori, are also revealed. Also, Satoshi Hino is joining the cast as Hajime Saito.
A theatrical screening event will be held on June 18 at United Cinema Aqua City Odaiba. Screening events are also set to be held in America, France, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Indonesia.
Based on the legendary Shonen manga by Nobuhiro Watsuki, the series ran from 1994 to 1999 in Weekly Shonen Jump. A direct sequel to the series, Rurouni Kenshin: The Hokkaido Arc, started serialization in 2017. The sequel was briefly on hiatus (February-June 2018) after Watsuki was charged with possession of explicit materials focusing on children.
Gallop and Studio DEEN first animated the adaptation, which aired from 1996 to 1999. The franchise also has a live-action adaptation, which contains five movies, starring Takeru Satoh as Kenshin. And this new anime reboot is animated by LIDENFILMS and directed by My Master Has No Tail’s Hideyo Yamamoto.

One hundred and forty years ago in Kyoto, with the coming of the American “Black Ships,” there arose a warrior who, felling men with his bloodstained blade, gained the name Hitokiri, manslayer! His killer blade helped close the turbulent Bakumatsu era and slashed open the progressive age known as Meiji. Then he vanished, and with the flow of years, became legend.
The story follows Himura Kenshin, a renowned assassin that fought in the Boshin War, roaming Japan as a wandering samurai, offering protection to those who need it with his signature reversed-blade katana to atone for his murderous past. On his travels, he runs into Kamiya Kaoru and helps her stop an imposter using his nickname “Battousai the manslayer”, he goes to her dojo in search of a new start to his life.
