It has been a while since we got new information on Detective Pikachu Returns, and it was finally confirmed on today’s Nintendo Direct presentation that this Pokémon spin-off sequel is just a few months away with a Switch release date of October 6, 2023!
Pokemon fans will be going back to Prime City with their favorite detective- a tough-talking, coffee-loving Pikachu! This Pikachu may have a self-assured attitude and talk like a middle-aged man, but he somehow manages to keep his lovable charm. Together with his partner Tim Goodman, this great detective duo cracks several cases with the help of the many Pokémon and people who live in Ryme City.
The debut trailer also showed the diminutive detective and his partner Tim Goodman starting his day with his favorite coffee, as multiple areas of Ryme City and the Pokemon inhabiting them flash across the screen. The mayor of Prime City declares a “Pokemon Friendship Week,” while Pikachu and Tim are confronted by the legendary Pokemon, Mewtwo.
The previous game, Detective Pikachu, was originally released on March 23, 2018 on Nintendo 3DS worldwide. Tim Goodman comes to Ryme City in search of his missing father, and he grabs some help from his father’s former partner, Detective Pikachu. The game’s story originally ended on a cliffhanger, so I’m glad that we’ll see the story continue!
