A new Touhou Project game is on the way in the form of Touhou Dungeon Maker: The Labyrinth of Heart! Blending roguelike and tower defense elements, the dungeon management RPG will be available for PC via Steam at an unspecific release date.
Like its other games based on the series, Touhou Dungeon Maker: The Labyrinth of Heart is set in Gensokyo, a land suddenly riddled with mysterious dungeons. These dungeons harbor a formidable power that deranges the minds of those who enter, inducing countless phantom attacks. The ensuing chaos threatens to engulf Gensokyo entirely, rendering both humans and monsters homeless. The ones to rise to this daunting challenge are those possessing the “ability to influence the mind,” who can resist mental derangement and subdue illusions.
The game is seemingly a collaboration with Dungeon Maker, so players can definitely expect a mix of character strengthening, trap setting, and continuous defense against waves of enemies in the Touhou Project universe!
▍Touhou Dungeon Maker: The Labyrinth of Heart Gameplay
Touhou Dungeon Maker: The Labyrinth of Heart engages players in a dungeon management RPG experience, featuring both roguelike and tower defense mechanics. The players’ mission is to create an ideal dungeon capable of withstanding 100 days of enemy onslaught while slowly unraveling the mysteries of the magical dungeon.
This task involves befriending and strengthening female characters, setting up strategic traps, and tirelessly fending off phantom invaders. As players progress through the game, various rewards can be earned to help strengthen the dungeon. By surviving 100 days, the key element “mysterious graffiti” will be awarded as a clue to understand the cause of the anomalies plaguing Gensokyo.
Each playable character in the game possesses unique abilities, enhanced by the experience gained over multiple playthroughs. The game will feature six characters from the Touhou series, including Reisen Udongein Inaba, Satori Komeiji, and Hatano Kokoro. The experience gathered from overcoming a game can be used to unlock new skills, giving you an advantage in your next dungeon challenges.
