Today (28th September), Toho announced a live action adaption of Makoto Shinkai’s critically acclaimed animation movie, Your Name (君の名は。). The animator has already enlisted director J.J. Abrams (Star Wars) and screenwriter Eric Heisserer (A Nightmare on Elm Street) for the production. The movie is owned by and made at Abrams’ studio, Bad Robot Productions.
Despite being made in Hollywood, the anime’s producer Genki Kawamura will participate in the project. “This is a dream. This must be a dream,” commented Kawamura on his collaboration with Bad Robot Productions. He has also been a fan of Heisserer since Arrival.
Shinkai himself was also optimistic about the result of the production and “looking forward to it”.
The release date and cast are yet to be announced.
