Classic boxing-themed manga series Ashita no Joe (あしたのジョー) is having its 50th birthday in the coming January. To celebrate the occasion, it will have a TV anime series to be released Spring 2018, which is the third TV anime after the second one in 1981.
The announcement video shows a man who is possibly the main hero, Joe Yabuki, in a fighting ring. It also confirms that it is titled Megalo Box (メガロボクス) instead of the original name. Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress’s artist You Moriyama is now directing the show at TMS Entertainment.
Written by Ikki Kajiwara (梶原 一騎) and illustrated by Tetsuya Chiba, the manga was serialised between in 1968 and 1973 on Weekly Shonen Magazine. The plot follows Joe, an troubled young man whose life is changed completely by being a professional boxer. Two TV anime spin-off and two anime films have been produced since 1971.
