Animated film adaption of Daisuke Igarashi’s manga Children of the Sea (海獣の子供) recently announced additional and changing of cast members.
The new cast members include (left to right from the image below):
- Min Tanaka as Jim, a former friend of Anglade and a marine biologist who now takes care of Umi and Sora
- Seishū Uragami as Sora
- Win Morisaki as Anglade, a genius marine biologist who pursues the mystery surrounding Umi and Sora
Airu Kubozuka was initially announced to play Sora. However, he dropped out of the role as he is experiencing voice changes due to puberty. The other two main cast remains, including Hiiro Ishibashi as Umi and Mana Ashida as Ruka Azumi.
Directed by Ayumu Watanabe and created by STUDIO4°C, the film tells the story of Ruka, who meet two mysterious boys named Sora and Umi. Raised by a dugong (a marine mammal similar to a manatee), Sora and Umi grew up underwater and can receive calls of the ocean. Meanwhile, an unexplained anomaly is occurring all over the world: fish are disappearing, which leads Ruka to an unprecedented marine adventure.
The music is written by, Joe Hisaishi, a well-known composer around the world. This is the first time he will compose for a full-length anime since 2013, where he wrote the music for the Ghibli movies The Wind Rises and The Tale of Princess Kaguya.
Children of the Sea will be released in Japanese cinemas on 7th June 2019.
