Canadian indie studio Red Barrels announced yesterday (4th December) on Facebook that a new Outlast game, titled The Outlast Trials, is currently underway. It will be a survival horror game supports multiplayer with up to four players. Further details such as supported platform and release window are not revealed yet.

According to the official post, The Outlast Trials is not a direct sequel to Outlast 2, but it is set in the same universe winding back the clock to the Cold War era. The tagline in the key art, “Where Freedom Ends” implicates players will be test subjects of an unknown experiment and they will need to find their way to endure and survive.

▍Single-player & Multiplayer mode
David Chateauneuf, the co-founder of Red Barrels, assured that the game will support both the single-player mode and multiplayer mode with up to four players, as players can “go through the experiments alone or with friends”. He also mentions the concept of the game is now complete and the team is working on the game development, though it is still in a very early stage.

Outlast is a first-person horror survival game developed and published by Red Barrels in 2013, with a sequel titled Outlast 2 in 2017. In general, players agree that the series captures the singleplayer terror well and it has grown into a renowned franchise.
