Based on Sakyo Komatsu’s (小松左京) disaster novel “Japan Sinks” (日本沈没), the TV anime adaptation “Japan Sinks 2020” (日本沈没2020) reveals a new key visual and confirms that it will premiere worldwide on Netflix in summer 2020. The anime series will have 10 episodes.

Story

Days after the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, an ordinary family is put to the test as massive earthquakes throw the Japanese archipelago into total mayhem. The four members of the Mutō family are caught in an earthquake that hits Tokyo, and attempt to escape the city, while disaster claws at their heels.

Staff and Production

“Devilman Crybaby” director Masaaki Yuasa (湯浅 政明) is directing the anime at his Science SARU studio, with Pyeon-Gang Ho (許 平康) credited as series director. “Dragon Ball Super” screenwriter Toshio Yoshitaka (吉高寿男) is penning the script.

Musician Kensuke Ushio (牛尾憲輔), who has collaborated with Yuasa in “Ping Pong” and “Devilman Crybaby” anime, is in charge of the music.
