“Pokemon GO” and “Harry Potter: Wizards Unite” maker Niantic announced a new multiplayer augmented reality (AR) game “Catan: World Explorers”, based on the popular “Catan” board game.
The game intends to transform the entire Earth into one giant game of Catan, where players can collect resources to build towns, cities, and roads in an effort to score points for your faction.
▍Overview
In “Catan: World Explorers,” players can explore the virtual recreation of your real-life surroundings, as well as collecting brick, lumber, grain, ore and wool to trade with other players.
As in the board game, you will have a selection of development cards at your disposal with which to boost your progress and turn your basic towns into full-on cities. You can also team up with your friends to discover rare resources, and compete in guilds at both local and global levels.
The game now opens for pre-registration over on its official site. It will debut in beta form “very soon”, though there is no firm release date yet.
