Sachiko Kashiwaba’s “Misaki no Mayoiga” / “The Abandoned House by the Cape” (岬のマヨイガ) novel is getting an anime film adaptation in 2021. The novel won the 54th Noma Children’s Literature Award in 2016.
The novel centers around a traditional Japanese house named “Mayoiga” (named after the Japanese folklore of an abandoned yet well-kept home) from where one can see the sea and feel the touch of warmth and nostalgia. Here, a 17-year-old girl who is trying to find her place in the world begins a new life with people completely unrelated to her.
The anime film is directed by “Non Non Biyori” director Shinya Kawatsura and animated by david production, the studio that produced “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure” anime series. “Violet Evergarden” series composition writer Reiko Yoshida is penning the script.
