Girls like me are never satisfied with one type of guys. I play Hakuouki for the melancholy and determined guys from the Shinsengumi. I play Diabolik Lovers for the sadistic control freaks who are only sadistic to me. I play Ikemen Sengoku for the ambitious warriors who spoil me like a princess.
If you are like me, then Akasasu Sekai de Kimi to Utau（茜さすセカイでキミと詠う）, a.k.a Akaseka, is the game for you.
Akaseka is an upcoming mobile otome game produced by GCREST, the same developer who produced 100 Sleeping Princes & the Kingdom of Dreams（夢王国と眠れる100人の王子様）, which is simply referred to as Yume 100. Players take the role of a girl who stumbles across a parallel world that has no sun. In this world where darkness dominates, aragami attack the protagonist and this prompts her to become a shrine maiden. With the help and the power of more than 60 handsome guys, the girl decides to begin the journey to awakening the sun.
Akaseka and Yume 100 are indeed quite similar in terms of the gameplay, but Akaseka is more like turn-based version of Candy Crush. Players have to eliminate three or more gems of the same colour by moving them around. Each turn allows three movements. The more gems are eliminated, the more powerful the guys are. After that, the enemies launches their attack. The process keeps repeating until the enemies are dead.
Of course, the games doesn’t have any point if the handsome are just there for us to date and doesn’t help us out at all in a battle. Each guy has his own set of skills that can be launched by tapping on the chibi when a "スキル" bubble appears next to it. Some of the enemies can deal a hell lot of damages, and hence it is important to have some characters who are able to heal the team from time to time.
In short, this is not a simple otome game where we just read stories. It requires strategies, intense upgrades of useful characters (which involves intense farming of ingredients as well) and pure luck to get the characters we need.

However, in terms of the story, I feel like Akaseka has more richness than Yume 100.
First of all, the characters are all from different backgrounds! This is certainly more attractive than Yume 100 where we get 100 guys with the same title, a.k.a prince, from a similar background in the same world. There are Sengoku warriors. There are Shinsengumi members. There are famous authors. There are omniyojis. There are so many, so many choices. Each guy has his own story that is connected to his own historical background as well as the game’s background.
I decided to start the game with Okita Souji from the Shinsengumi. His story mainly focuses on the protagonist’s and his life in the Shinsengumi compound. Of course, other characters and elements from the main story make an appearance in his story as well, making it an individual story that is not too sidetracked.
While most otome game is set at a certain time in the past, a dreamy fantasy world and sometimes the future, this story is actually based off Japanese folklores. The monsters that attack the protagonist are Shikigami, a spiritual being that is mysterious and dangerous. Shikigami is said to be able to possess animals and humans, and it is under the control of an omniyoji.

In fact, this gimmick has been featured many times in various manga and anime series, but the game polishes it well by cooperating with a mysterious backdrop where the sun is never up and multiple eras crosses path with each other. The romance part is important, yes. Nevertheless, I believe the main story has the charm to stand alone as a game even without the romance part.
For this is a relaxing game without much pressure to purchase items and get an extraordinary character to beat the game, it only took me two to three hours to finish the first chapter and level up Okita to lvl. 40 (after that it takes awakening to do any further upgrades). Somehow I feel this is too relaxing for a mobile game that has been in production for a year (bear in mind that most mobile games can be done within three months). After knowing how long it took to produce this game, I expected the gameplay to be more challenging and offer less obvious options in the romantic scenes!

Still, I believe challenges may not be very important to most players. What is more important to most girls is the voice cast. It has got most of my favourites and I have to admit, this is the major reason why I play it and write about it.
Oh well, this is an otome game after all. There is nothing wrong with ear bleeding to our imaginary boyfriends’ voices, am I right?
