Counter:Side was a very popular game during the time of its release. The generous 160 free pulls from the developers spurred a lot of people to reroll for high-powered units and many stuck around thanks to the enjoyable gameplay and gripping storyline. So, if you were considering to pick up Counter:Side or you were looking to dust off your old account, here’s everything you need to know going forward!
Best Characters
Counter:Side is very generous when it comes to free pulls but it’s a little less easy to acquire premium currency because of this. Not to mention that the steep pity of 150 pulls means you are even less likely to snag the character that you are trying to summon. While it is always best to wait until Counter:Side releases another batch of free pulls, here are some Counters to look out for if you plan to reroll as soon as possible.
Gaeun
Gaeun is a monster in PVP and can also work relatively well in PVE content as well. Her claim to fame is a massive AOE stun which, when coupled with her devastating autos and ultimate ability, makes quick work of any foes. Gaeun has been at the top of the PVP tier list for a long time and is very future-proof. Try to pick her up if you can.
Kyle Wong
Kyle is another damage dealer but one who brings even more utility than Gaeun. Kyle’s Strategy Bulwark is a plague upon PVP and can provide you with the precious few milliseconds you need to fire off his destructive Gravity Gun ultimate skill! Kyle does not have many uses in PVE but he will always be in consideration when it comes to creating the PVP ban list!
Rosaria La Friede
Rosaria is an airborne unit meaning that certain units cannot touch here. Already this sounds like a huge benefit but, when you tack on Rosaria’s insanely powerful kit to such an ability, she rises to another level! Rosaria is a damage-dealing nuker who uses her abilities to power up her own attack before unleashing massive AOE damage.
Rosaria may not seem that different from any other unit but her being airborne drastically improves her viability. Shadow Palace is a PVE mode in which certain restrictions are placed on your team. At points, ONLY airborne units are able to be used. Rosaria is a must for those looking to snag the rewards from the Shadow Palace including powerful gear and premium currency.
Yang Harim
Yang Harim is the best supporter in the game since her release. Gacha veterans will know how important it is to have a powerful healer and buffer on one’s team and Yang satisfies this need expertly. Yang is great because she can provide attack buffs, heal, and decrease enemy skill haste all by herself. This frees up your composition to include more tanks or more damage dealers.
Recommended Classified Units
Classified units are only summonable using a much scarcer currency. They are powerful characters designed to be monsters in PVP content (similar to Epic Seven’s Moonlight characters). While there is no way to reroll for these units per se, here are some rerun banners you should look out for.
- Na Yubin – Arguably, the best tank in the game.
- Seo Yoon – One of the most powerful damage dealers in the game.
- Yuna Springfield – Another incredibly powerful DPS.
Tips for Return Players
Collect Currency Efficiently
Counter:Side is fairly easy to progress without the need to dedicate hours of time (unless you want to compete in PVP, of course). One of the most efficient ways to collect currency is clearing your world map dispatch missions, performing a battle or two that can be skipped/stacked.
There is so much to do in Counter:Side that it can be overwhelming but, as always, you should stick to clearing out as much of the story as you can, three-starring every mission if possible. Once your units are powerful enough, you can head over to the Shadow Palace, Challenge mode, Danger Close, or Dive to pick up additional goodies!
Build CDR Sets in Gearing
The Counter:Side gearing experience is not for the faint of heart. Like other games, a lot is left up to RNG as you will need to use rare materials to reroll the stats of gear you like. These rerolls will be random and so you will need to acquire a lot of gold binaries in order to make some truly good gear. However, unlike Epic Seven which also includes RNG when levelling gear, Counter:Side does not have much RNG past the acquiring of the stats you want.
While different units require different sets (tanks needing HP and Defense while damage dealers need attack speed, for example) Cooldown Reduction sets are the meta and look to be for the foreseeable future. Dealing tons of damage makes no difference if you do not have the CDR to pump them out at relative quickness and this is why CDR is and will always be king. If you can build a strong CDR set for your units, you should be ok to tackle most content and compete at low-level PVP.
Counter Pass
The Counter Pass is a system in which you can use premium currency to complete missions which will net you experience towards completing the pass. Along the way, you can acquire materials, premium currency, and a free unit that comes with enough copies to push their level to 106 at no additional cost. While the Counter Pass is always recommended for light spenders due to the rewards it provides, these units are added into the general pool afterward and also do come back for their own banners in the future.
What Should You Be Doing In-Game?
This is a difficult question as the answer depends entirely on your playstyle. If you plan to reach the highest level of PVP, you should focus on clearing out as much content as possible in order to gear your units effectively. If you are a collector, make sure you three-star every story mission to gain as much premium currency as possible. If you see a skin you like in the shop… unfortunately, most of the higher value skins can only be purchased with real money. Counter:Side does have some of the best skins on the market, however, so we wouldn’t fault you for picking up one or two!
Counter:Side is a great game that kind of fell out of the limelight when other newer gachas came along. However the game is still going strong and, thanks to the SEA server being behind the Korean server, we have the benefit of foresight and can plan our rolls accordingly! Be sure to look up a list of characters and get saving for the day your waifu’s banner comes back around!
