In celebration of the 10th anniversary of Bravely Default, Bravely Default Brilliant Lights saw its launch in the Japanese market last week with great popularity. It is the first-ever Bravely Default IP-based title for mobile devices and has kept its signature turn-based battle system with a more convenient adaptation for mobile gamers. If you are thinking of building the best team with the strongest heroes, here is everything you need to know!
▍Combat Guide & Tips
Fans of the Bravely Default series will be happy to find that Bravely Default Brilliant Lights also follows a turn-based combat system where every hero in your team as well every enemy has an action value. The action value of all heroes decides the turn order of the fight. For example, if your heroes are at a higher action value than the enemy, then they will move first. Players can see this turn order by the character icon on the left.
Players will have to build a party of 4 heroes and fight against waves of enemies. Each hero has its own HP and MP, representing Health Points and Magic Points. A hero dies when its HP bar reaches 0. MP is used for using spells and the heroes will gain MP at each turn. Every hero has 3 different skills in their kit: Basic Attack, 1st Ability, and 2nd Ability.
The basic attack does not consume any MP but is usually a weaker form of attack. The 1st ability of all heroes consumes between 26-50 MP depending on their class. For example, Support class heroes generally use more MP when they use their skills but they also have a greater total MP bar.
The 2nd ability is also known as the Ultimate ability and is fully animated with special effects. Players can cast them if they have enough MP, but they generally cost a very high amount of MP.
Bravely Default Brilliant Lights also has a system called Brave Points. Players can accumulate 1 Brave Point when they choose not to attack their enemies and pass their turn. All heroes can have a maximum of 3 Brave Points, which can be used to gain up to 3 additional turns. This makes the battles more interesting as characters can take essentially 4 turns in a single turn when they have the Brave Mode on.
Additional combat mechanics include the Break system where players can utilize certain abilities of heroes to break the enemy’s shield and even Stun then. The hero also has 2 turn Shields on them which can be broken with Shield-breaking abilities. After a hero’s shield is broken, he is stunned for 1 turn.
▍How to Build Your Team?
There are a total of 4 types of heroes in Bravely Default Brilliant Lights and all heroes are classified under the following:
- Defender
- Long-Distance
- Short-distance
- Supporter
Defenders
Defenders excel in tanking out the heavy damage output given by enemies while also guarding allies at the backline. Some Defenders also have extra effects like lowering the action value of enemies, giving powerful buffs to themselves or allies like Counterattack, Protection, etc. Argent Heinkel, Liz, or Edea Lee are some of the best Defenders with these buffs.
Long-Distance
Long-Distance heroes can be considered as Marksmen/Ranged heroes in other RPGs. Players can expect high damaging abilities with extra effects such as Stuns, debuffs, and addition turn granted. They are also very squishy with low base HP to compensate their powerful basic attack and high damage dealt. Victoria or Ringabel are two recommended Long-Distance heroes.
Short-Distance
Short-distance heroes finds similarities to Warriors in other RPGs. They can go either way as damage dealer or as tank. Some of the Short distance heroes have high Basic Attack and even deal more damage than long-distance heroes. Some of these excellent hero examples include Adele, Tiz, and Nagit.
Supporter
Support are exceptionally good at healing and enforcing your team’s endurability. Some support heroes can heal allies with their basic abilities without spending any MP. They also provide buffs for allies to give advantages in battles. Nikolai, Gloria Neu Musa, and Agnes are known as the best supporters in the game
▍Choose Heroes If You Have Their Unique Weapons
Usually, we recommend picking 1 hero from each class as they are required to 3-star most of the missions in story mode. You also recommended to have heroes who can break the enemies’ Shields, so as to help gain advantages in boss battles.
If you just start Bravely Default Brilliant Lights, we recommend players choose heroes if you have their unique weapons, Each characters have their unique weapons and the weapons that are most suitable to them will be highlighted with the character’s symbol.
A guaranteed Tier 10 weapon which is the highest Tier available will be summonable in every player’s first 10 pull or 10 summons. You are recommended to use character with their unique weapons as it will help in early game progression. However, as you progress in later stages, we can see the difficulty ramping up and requiring certain heroes regardless of weapons to be used.
