Created by PlayHard.Lab, Redbros is an over-the-top puzzle-solving RTS dungeon crawler game for Android devices which is surprisingly much more sophisticated than its art style leads you to believe.
Puzzle-solving isn’t exactly a new genre to the mobile gaming scene, but the unique combination of the RTS controls gives the game a remarkable sense of control.
Throughout each stage, players will encounter different puzzles, traps, enemies, and prisoners who can be freed to aid the player’s party during the stage. Together with a handful of spells, the game isn’t overly simple which make the game quite interesting when you start.
The controls for Redbros is quite thoroughly thought out to give players more refined control over their party. Dual finger compatible to split your party and swipe controls to set your party formation allows the game to create more intricate puzzles and opens up more varieties of solution for the player.
Thoughts
To put it simply, Redbros is definitely worth trying. The gameplay is fairly refreshing and has a very modern cross-genre feel to it. Avoiding some of the game’s classic dungeon crawler traps (i.e. Spikes) does add more to the game, but the game really shines with its RTS-like combat and RPG-esque bosses.
The biggest downside I have with the game is the pace. The game slowly increases the difficulties to the stages, which is normal, but after a certain point, it just becomes a matter of precision. The puzzles quickly become just a different version of what you did previously making the game feel repetitive.
But although the puzzles don’t require much though, the combat becomes significantly harder. Occasionally, you’ll find yourself in a position where you’re trying find ways to defeat enemies without losing a large portion of your party.
So if RTS is your kinda thing then definitely give Redbros a try!
