Famed for its alchemy-centric RPG gameplay and adorable art, the Atelier Series has seen a resurgence in popularity recently with the release of its latest titles Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout and its direct sequel Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy.
So it may come as a surprise to newcomers to the series, that the Atelier Series as a franchise is celebrating its 25th anniversary, with Koei Techmo Games releasing a video show for the occasion. Whether you were enticed recently by Atelier Ryza or you’re a hardcore fan entrenched in the ways of synthesis, this video will give you a rundown of the entire history of the Atelier Series dating all the way back to 1997.
▍Atelier Series’ 25th Anniversary Trailer Video
▍A trip down memory lane
Starting off with the Atelier Marie on the Playstation 1, the series has gone through many different iterations, being separated tangentially by each game taking place in different locations and with different protagonists. The Atelier series has so far gone through nine different series with the recent Atelier Ryza being part of the Secret series, while the latest Atelier Sophie sequel takes place in the Mysterious series being a continuation of the story of Sophie from the 2017 title.
▍A Little Taste of What’s to Come
Capping off with a series of art renders placed in picture frames, the video would then zoom out to a curiously empty picture frame with nothing on it. Upon swooping inside, the scene transitioned to never before seen locales such as an ancient ruin submerged in water, and other cuts showed off what looked like high tower-like structures that looked as though they were suspended in the sky. All of these shots also look very much in-engine as well.
Though the anniversary site was open for a while before this trailer drop, this has been the first teaser ever shown about the occasion and most definitely hints at a possible new title in the Atelier Series being in the works. While the developer Gust is announcing a new title at Tokyo Game Show 2022, there is a large possibility this Atelier new title will reveal more information at the annual event!
In most recent news there were multiple collaborations with Tales of Arise, Atelier Sophie, and Blue Reflection: Second Light, but no substantial news pertaining to anything about a sequel or a new title. The anniversary site still has some segments under its project section that still mention “coming soon”, so it’ll be exciting to hear what Koei Techmo Games and Gust have been working on in the background. Whenever that shows up next, this trailer has only been just a taste of what’s to come!
