Binary Haze Interactive and Adglobe have confirmed the release date of their upcoming dark fantasy simulation game Redemption Reapers, which will be available digitally on February 23 for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam at a launch price of USD$49.99. The game will have a physical version released in April.
A new trailer introducing the game mechanics and combat gameplay of the title was also revealed. Redemption Reapers also has multiple playable characters featuring different fighting styles. The gameplay trailer showcases how turn-based battles will be conducted and also how the strategy systems, character skills, and accessory system will work.
Backed by a formidable battalion of AAA industry veterans, Redemption Reapers is an original story created by director Hiroyuki Kobayashi (ENDER LILIES: Quietus of the Knights), with game balance design courtesy of tactical RPG veteran Masayuki Horikawa (Fire Emblem), Tomokazu Fukushima (Metal Gear Solid), and Rei Kondoh (Fire Emblem Series).
When hope in the lands is snuffed out by the appearance of the monstrous Mort armies, nations begin to fall and armies are weakened from the enemy’s nightly raids. In a bid to combat the foe, the Ashen Hawk Brigade, a band of mercenaries specializing in guerilla warfare and surprise tactics are tasked to fight against the invaders.
Redemption Reapers will feature English and Japanese dubbing options and will support English, Japanese, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese (simplified and traditional), and Korean languages.
▍Redemption Reapers Game System
■ Action Points (AP)
In Redemption Reapers, players will use action points (AP) to activate skills. As movement is possible at any time before or after an attack, you may be able to attack several enemies in one turn by spending AP wisely. Max AP increases the more battles you fight (on the same map only).
■ Follow-Up Attack
You can also perform follow-up attacks on allies’ attacks during battles. If an ally is adjacent to the attacked enemy, you have the chance to launch a follow-up attack. To use this effectively, it is important to employ battle formations that allow for movement.
■ Skills
There are two types of skills, both with a wide range of effects on the characters: Active skills which can be used at will during battle, and passive skills which continuously provide support effects once acquired. “Specials” have even more extraordinary effects—not only are they incredibly powerful, but some also give support effects to all allies.
■ Leveling Up
There is some degree of randomness in the stats increase when leveling up in Redemption Reapers. This will affect the way your characters develop as well as the overall strategy of your brigade.
■ Leveling Up Skills
Players will use skill points (SP) earned when leveling up to improve passive skills or unlock new skills in Redemption Reapers. The tactics available to a player will vary widely depending on how they choose to strengthen and develop their skills.
■ Accessories
Characters can be equipped with accessories to give them a variety of unique effects. Consider these in conjunction with skill upgrades to develop a battle strategy that is yours alone. Accessories can be obtained from the chests located on certain maps.
▍Redemption Reapers Characters & Cast
■ Sarah – EN CV: Alejandra Reynoso / JP CV: Yuko Kaida
A warrior who fights as a member of the Ashen Hawk Brigade. She lives burdened by regrets of a certain battle fought by the Hawks in the past, and maybe that is why she always puts her own life on the line during the battles. Her weapon of choice is two daggers.
■ Glenn – EN CV: Jason Spisak / JP CV: Rikiya Koyama
A swordsman who serves as the leader of Sarah’s unit in the Ashen Hawk Brigade. Before turning into a mercenary, he served as a Knight Commander in a ruined country. Due to this background, he often takes up the initiative when both the leader and deputy leader are absent. He fights with orthodox swordsmanship as expected from a knight.
■ Lugh – EN CV: Kyle McCarley / JP CV: Kenjiro Tsuda
A veteran spearman, and member of the Ashen Hawk Brigade. He has red hair and wears a wide-brimmed hat and a mask. While his intent to kill Mort is stronger than anyone else’s, he often talks with bitter irony about his situation and that of his companions. This behavior is the cause of constant conflict between him and Glenn.
■ Urs – EN CV: David Lodge / JP CV: Tesshō Genda
A gigantic man, a member of the Ashen Hawk Brigade, wields a giant axe. During battles, he willingly stands in the vanguard and serves as a shield for his allies. He is also one of the elders among his peers, a quiet man, who plays a role in tightening everyone up at key points.
■ Karren – EN CV: Allegra Clark / JP CV: Nana Mizuki
A female archer, a member of the Ashen Hawk Brigade. She has a refreshing temperament and is easy to get along with. The only thing she doesn’t like is being confronted by her own past. In the Hawks, there is a clear division of front and rear line warriors, and because of that, she often works together with Urs.
■ Naki – EN CV: Caleb Yen / JP CV: Jun Fukuyama
A boy who lived in Inissa Village, in the Bishu region. When his hometown was destroyed by the Mort, he came to the Hawks’ Nest under the protection of Sarah and the others.
■ Rowen – EN CV: Richard Epcar / JP CV: Shunsuke Takeuchi
A man who serves as the leader of the Ashen Hawk Brigade. Contrary to his stern appearance, he does not lack attention to detail and is deeply trusted by his subordinates. He is also Sarah’s master of swordsmanship, and just like her, he wields two swords on the battlefield.
■ Socius – EN CV: Andy Barnett / JP CV: Kenta Miyake
The deputy commander of the Ashen Hawk Brigade displays his sharpness every day as Rowan’s right hand. His relationship with Rowan is the oldest among the Hawks, and their bond is strong. In terms of personality, he is a straight-laced person who is recognized by both himself and others.
■ Lorthos – EN CV: Lucien Dodge / JP CV: Hiroki Yasumoto
A man dispatched by the great nation of Luden in order to understand the situation of the Mort invasions. He serves as a liaison between the Luden army and the Ashen Hawk Brigade in an attempt to stop the Mort advances.
■ Levante – EN CV: Ian James Corlett / JP CV: Akio Otsuka
A general who served the now-destroyed Kingdom of Caledaecia, he is known as the “Tiger of Caledaecia”. After his homeland was destroyed by the Mort, he barricaded himself in the only remaining fort, where he keeps resisting the Mort to this day.
