At this year’s Anime Expo Crunchyroll announced that the Black Butler anime series is getting a new season after 10 years since the last episode of its anime and even OVA.
The staff stressed that this new anime work is not a reboot but rather a new season, meaning it will be a continuation of the story. The animation is being worked on by CloverWorks with mostly new staff members, though Hiroyuki Yoshino, the writer for Black Butler: Book of Circus, Book of Murder, and Book of the Atlantic is returning for this new season.
The anime has once again cast Daisuke Ono as Sebastian Michaelis, and Maaya Sakamoto as Ciel Phantomhive. The new season of the anime will be coming sometime in 2024.

▍About Black Butler
Black Butler is a manga series created by Yana Toboso for Square ENix’ Montly GFantasy series that started in September of 2006 and is currently still ongoing, receiving multiple anime adaptations, OVAs, and films.
The series follows Ciel Phantomhive, a 12-year-old Earl and the last surviving member of the Phantomhive family after his family and his dog Sebastian was attacked by a demon-worshipping cult that believes child abuse through depraved acts is the way to call upon their lord.
After enduring nights of abuse, a demon arrives and states that it didn’t come because of the cult, but for Ciel’s own summoning ritual. Ciel sells his soul to this demon to form a contract, here the demon would serve Ciel until he dies. The demon kills all of the cultist members and places a mark on Ciel’s right eye, proclaiming it will consume his soul once he has helped Ciel get revenge for those who destroyed his family.
The demon, nameless, gets granted the name Sebastian Michaelis after Ciel’s dog, and the pair become tasked with becoming the Queen of England’s watchdogs, solving bizarre cases that could be a threat to the country.
