During Spike Chunsoft’s live stream programme at Tokyo Game Show 2021, Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp revealed the first demo play showcasing the detailed gameplay.
Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp is an expanded standalone version of the board minigame “Ultimate Talent Development Plan” in Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony. It is set in an alternate universe where all the characters from the various Danganronpa games live in relative harmony on an island summer camp.
They’ll need to find ten “Hope Shards” in order to return home, which they can do by playing a Sugoroku board game where the squares you can land on include things like “Growth”, “Battle”, “Event”, and “Friendship”. The RPG elements and Gacha system in the game catches eyes in the demo play, while nurturing your characters becomes crucial.
Stopping on a Growth Square will grant experience points. You can use them to nurture characters and obtain Monokuma Medals for MonoMono Machines (gacha). So the basic gameplay is to form a party with the characters collected in Gacha and nurture them through the board game.
Characters developed in the board game can be used in the Tower of Despair, a battle mode in which players fend off waves of enemies. Form a party of up to four members and take on Monobeasts awaiting you in the 200-story tower.
It takes around 2 to 30 minutes to train a character, so it is a game that you can enjoy casually. The same character has different rarity and you can even get swimsuit to change their clothes!
In addition, you can unlock the main story by collecting more characters and enjoy the interaction between characters from different Danganronpa series.
Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp is available as a physical-only bundle for Danganronpa Decadence, or standalone version in digital format from the Nintendo eShop on November 4 in Japan and on December 3, 2021 in North America and Europe.
Danganronpa Decadence is a collection of all three mainline Danganronpa games (Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, and Danganronpa v3: Killing Harmony) for the Nintendo Switch, included with Danganronpa S: Endless Summer.
