A new Silent Hill experience is currently in the works with Silent Hill Ascension, which is described as, in Konami’s words a “massively interactive live event”.
The project looks to take the series to a brand new, more modern route by turning it into a “real-time interactive series” where millions of fans watch together as the game’s story unfolds together, with audience members voting on the way the story progresses, with it being canonized forever, with no resets.
The project is being worked on by J.J, Abrams’ Bad Robot Games Studio, with technology from Genvid, Behavior Interactive the creators of Dead by Daylight, and dj2 Entertainment.
▍About Silent Hill Ascension
Silent Hill Ascension is a brand new take on the Silent Hill Series, bringing the story to life under the influence of not just its creators, but the millions of Silent Hill Fans across the world.
The project is an interactive story experience, where viewers can watch and interact with the Silent Hill world as it is broadcasted live through multiple platforms. The actual details of how this will work are not known, but it seems like viewers will be able to vote on story choices and how characters interact with each other as it progresses. How dynamic it will be is another issue though considering maybe online trolls overwhelmingly make story decisions, so how this will be done will be an interesting thing to think about.
Another option could be still releasing it as a game and streaming experience, but the overall story is released episodically, and how the players interact with the story shapes the series’ final canon depending on how many players make certain choices. Though this is more unlikely given how projected is currently being marketed as a streaming and viewing experience.
Along with Silent Hill Ascension, Konami also announced a remake of the 2001 Silent Hill 2 survival horror game two new games titled Silent Hill f and Silent Hill Townfall, and a Return to Silent Hill movie.
