During a special stage event at Animate Girls Festival 2022 (AGF2022), it was announced that the anime adaptation of Sony Music’s “multi-dimensional” idol project UniteUp! will premiere on January 7, 2023. A new visual, promotional video, and staff were also revealed.
The story centers on Akira Kiyose, a high school student who loves singing. After posting his song on a video-streaming site with the name ”KIKUNOYU”, he was scouted by sMiLea, a talent agency that once trained the legendary group Anela before it suddenly disappear. Akira decided to form a group with Mari Naoe and Chihiro Isuzugawa, who were also scouted. The three, who just started out singing, are inspired by the idols LEGIT and JAXX JAXX and aim for a successful debut with their own thoughts in mind.
The idol project has been initiated since December 2021. On its official YouTube channel, the project has been streaming over 25 songs performed by new-generation male singers. Sony Music originally launched this project in order to feature various artists and “hidden talents”. The AGF2022 stage also features five cast members including Kikunosuke Toya, Ryōtarō Yamaguchi, Amon Hirai, Magura Sukegawa, and masa.
The music project mainly focused on the striving of the four vocal groups Protostar, Legit, Jaxx Jaxx, and AneLa, and all of them will appear in the anime series animated by Clover Works.
