Bandai Namco has revealed a new teaser trailer for the recently announced Digimon Survive for PS4 and Switch.
During the Digimon Thanksgiving 2018 Special Live-Stream, Bandai Namco not only revealed a new teaser trailer for the game but also went over the game’s system with two gameplay footage, one for the “Drama” or story aspect of the game and one for the “Battle” aspect of the game.
Starting with the teaser trailer, Bandai Namco describes Digimon Survive’s setting as more of a Dark Fantasy rather than the series’ typical settings. The teaser trailer reveals a visual novel-esque feel to the game where player’s choices and actions will have significant consequences.
▍Drama Gameplay
As for the gameplay, the “Drama Part” reveals enchanting 3D areas created in anime-style graphics. Depending on the position of the light source, and the player’s position, the shadow will change accordingly to create a 3D area whilst keeping the anime 2D style illustrations. For the story, Bandai Namco Entertainment Game Producer, Kazumasa Habu, explained that he wanted to create a game where Digimon Evolution is tied to character development just as it is in the anime series. Depending on the different choices players make in the game, their partner Digimon will have different evolutions. The game will also have multiple endings.
▍Battle Gameplay
The combat aspect of Digimon Survive brings back the turn-based SLG combat system of the previous Wonderswan Digimon Adventure titles. Digimon evolution, similar to the anime series, will be temporary. Meaning, during combat, players will have to pick the best time to evolve their partner Digimon to yield the most results.
Digimon Survive is set for 2019 for PS4 and Switch.
