For those who have never heard of Visiontrick Media, they are a three-man team Rickard Westman, Rui Guerreiro and Henrik Flink with visually stunning and atmospheric puzzle games with a unique touch.

At the TGS2017 Indie Game Section, Visiontrick showcased their iOS and Steam title, Pavilion, a fourth person puzzle solving game, and MARE, a unique VR storytelling puzzle solving game which has players witness the growth of an unlikely relationship between a mechanical bird and a lost girl.

MARE TGS2017 Teaser

Whilst you wouldn’t technically be wrong if you called MARE a game, personally, it feels more like a interactive visual journey. Players play as the mechanical bird (in the TGS2017 demo), flying from one set point to another by looking at the destination they want to fly to. Just from looking at others play, the world of MARE is already stunning to look at, with the VR experience, the game sets a surreal atmosphere for players to explore. Talking to Rui Guerreriro, he explained that in MARE, players start off not knowing anything about the story. Many of the questions are answered as they explore deeper into the game. Even now, the ending to the game’s narrative has yet to be decided. If you’re into games that are purely story driven, then MARE is definitely a game you want to keep an eye out for.

The other game Visiontrick presented is Pavilion, their fourth person puzzle game for iOS and PC (via Steam). Player’s goal is to interact with the world to lead the character from one zone to another. Pavilion is one of those games that allows players to see and feel the cause and effect of each interaction, and through trial and error, solve brain teasing puzzles at their own pace. Perhaps the best part of the game is that players have freedom over their pace. The game has no timer to force players to solve each puzzle as fast as they can, but instead encourages players to really slow down and appreciate the delicate designs of each zone and the soothing atmosphere the audio and visual combination creates.

For those who have already tried, Pavilion and enjoyed it, then great news. Rickard Westman shared with us that not only are they planning to release the game on PS4, but they will also be making chapter II for the game which will allow players to have more interactions with the objects and characters of the world.
